If You Missed It, Buy It: Drive
While this site was under construction, I missed reviewing one of the hottest films of 2011 and that is sad because talking about Ryan Gosling and all his acting bits would have been an envitable highlight of the year. That said it is out on DVD next Monday and I order you to buy it (because I totally have the power to that.)
If you don't know because you havent seen the abundance of trailers, posters or you shrugged your shoulders and went "meh" when someone tried to will you to watch this masterpiece (if so shame on you,) Drive is a thriller that is hottly tipped for many Oscar nods this year. Drive stars Gosling as an unnamed stunt driver who moonlights as a getaway driver. Unfortunately, after falling in love with a married woman, the Driver gets involved in a series of events out of his league and he must fight for survival.
Drive is a slick film noir thriller that keeps your pulse racing at all times. Ryan Gosling is a formidable actor who can command a series of emotions with uttering many words. His co stars are equally as brilliant with the lovely Cary Mulligan as his love interest to the chilling Mel Brooks as the disgruntled mob boss (trust me, you'll never watch Finding Nemo in the same light.)
The film is film so smartly that each shot is as powerful as the next one and as the story unfolds you are on your edge of your seat. Yes, there is a pile of unecessary gore but it isn't torture porn, it is part of the teeth clenching tension that this film completely embodies.
Drive ticks all the right boxes and then delivers more. I completely back this film to collect a series of gongs and will be highly disappointed if it goes away empty handed. I will have lost all faith in the God of Hollywood.
Gah, I can't take anymore. The more I talk about this film, the more goosebumps I get. It is that good I'm starting to look ill with lumps.
Pre-order it now and then thank me later.
I like chocolates.
