Film News This Week.
Yet another week has passed us and we aren't bereft of news here at Cookie N Screen. There is some shocking news and unsurprising news. So delve into the gossip with me.
The Good News
Last week we announced the best news we have had so far in 2012; Anchorman 2 is a definite go go. This week we have director Adam McKay telling us to indepth plotline that our favourite news team has to battle in this much anticpated sequel. Ok, ok, so it's not an indepth movie synopsis (but who needs that, that will just ruin the fun of guessing) but in a recent interview, McKay hinted at divorce, a custody battle and bowling? Yes, yes you heard that right, Anchorman goes Big Lebowski? I think I need another change of underwear. You can find the rest of the interview here; https://www.salon.com/2012/04/09/anchormans_new_relevance/singleton/
(I'll never get tired of reposting this image.)
For fans, and that's a lot of them, of Joseph Gordon Levitt (wow, thats the first time that I've spelt that correctly without double checking a billion times) then be excited as a new poster and a new teaserhas hit the web for his new Sci-Fi romp Looper. Apparently dubbed "gritty" and "grounded," Looper has Levitt star as a hit man who, now brace yourselves for this, works for a crime family who send theior victims back in time so that Levitt or Joe as his character is called, can off them so their bodies can be found. This arrangement works fine until an older version of Joe himself (Bruce Willis) is sent back so that Joe (younger version) can kill him. Yes, yes, very very confusing. So while you wrap yourself around the plot, watch this superb teaser and the trailer comes out Thursday;https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hlbCwYIjIv8
(Looper: Now with extra nom.)
Other good news which may spell bad news for another series of films (but we will get on to that further down,) but the sequel to X-Men: First Class is underway shooting. If you don't remember First Class for some mutant mind wiping reason (because that's the only reason you have to give, but First Class was the amazing prequel of the X-Men Franchise that completely wiped Wolverine off the table (which is definitely a good thing.)
The film stars James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender and Jennifer Lawrence, (yes that Jennifer Lawrence) and the new movie is set to begin shooting in October. So, surely that wont clash with any other big time movie? Right? Right.
(X-Men: First Class; showing that you can still be a mutant, and still be very sexy.)
The Bad News
Ok so The Hunger Games, which still sits comfortably on the top of the box office right now and has an army of fans as big as Twilight, has run into a few problems lately. I know, the seemingly untouchable series has had two disasters this week and they bounce of each other. Firstly, director Gary Ross has announced today that he is stepping down from Catching Fire, the second film in the series. This spells bad news for Liongate as without the director, the schedule for filming is delayed, which means that the star, Jennifer Lawrence could be away filming for X-Men when The Hunger Games get it's act together. Damn, that's a lot of bad news, it could be a long while before Catching Fire hits our screens. Let the odds ever be in their favour. (I just had too.)
(It's hard being part of two amazing franchises)
Secondly, remember how good The Mummy was when it was first released? The epic action Mummy scenes across Eygpt. The brilliant performance from Brendon Fraiser as our wise-cracking hero. The twists, the turns, the love story. And then remember the good, but not fantastic sequel that still delivered a stellar film. And then remember the shocking and awful third installement that gave us nothing but regret. Regret that we gorged ourselves too much on The Mummy and the third film was the hangover (and let's not even mention The Scorpian King.) Well, Universal have gone and put forth a reboot which will see The Mummy returning to our screens. Are we thrilled? Or shall we just send the plague of locusts?
(Fans hoping for this can be sorely disappointed)
Finally, in another attempt at ruining our childhood, the new poster for Top Cat; The Movie. Ok, now I've given you a chance to recouperate from that, yes the 80's famous cartoon is getting the big Hollywood treatment. If you don't know the series, Top Cat or T.C is back with his band of feline felons in an attempt to thwart Officer Dibble. It's set to hit our screens on June 1 and has already had great success.
In Mexico.
Arriba!
Crap,
I think I just gave them an idea.
