Film News This Week
So here we go again where we cut apart the good, the bad and the downright awful pieces of film news this week. Currently after the BAFTA highs (and I will give it my full attention) there has been a lot of news that has been brushed aside. But I found it just so I can give it my witty flare. Because you love my humor, I know you do.
THE BAFTAS
So Drive was clearly snubbed at the Oscar nominations and that is a wound that will never heal, there was some hope that it may pick up at least a big award at The Baftas because we British gave it (some) of the nominations that it needed. But now the Baftas have added salt to the wounds by award The Artist 7 if the big awards at this weekends ceremonies. The film about a fallen silent movie star scooped up awards for Best Film, Best Actor and Best Director. Must point out that Jean Duljardin beat out hottly tipped Gary Oldman to Best Actor which is completely obscure for a British Film award. While I am not saying that The Artist is complete tripe, (I completely enjoyed the wholesome classic) I believe that other nominees were just that slightly better. The full complete list of winners are;

The Good News
While this sounds like the most ludicrus movie, I am all for amazingly fantastical films (see The Happiness Of The Katakuris) and Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter looks like a film to tickle those taste buds. Directed by The Wanteds Timur Bakmambetov (try saying that 10 times,) and produced by Tim Burton, the film is exactly how it sounds; everyone's favourite vampires grabbing some big ass weapons and killing some creatures of the night. And if that doesn't sound like your cup of tea then check out this amazing trailer.

Seriously makes Twilight look like the most pansiest film ever. Oh wait.....
(I may have a slight crush on a dead president)
I may just break my vow on remakes and how terrible they are. Of course there is always an exception to break the rule and I believe that this is it. Guillermo Del Torro, of Pan's Labirynth fame, is set to remake The Beauty And The Beast. The Disney classic is about to be revamped true Del Torro style and I cannot wait. It is probably going to be better than that awful Beastly version of the tale and it is set to go in a completely different direction. With Emma Watson attached and Three Muskateers writer Andrew Davies performing script duties; it will in no doubt be a film that can go in different directions. I can't wait.
"I want the scariest beast you can find and a child. That will freak the adults out."
The Bad News
As if Micheal Bay hasn't ruined our childhood enough, it has now been confirmed that the ball is in motion for a Transformers 4 movie. The inevitable cash cow is going to take a while to hit our cinemas (thank god) but Michael Bay has commited himself to the new movie. Whilst there is no storyline as of yet and no stars to it (but Shia LaBeouf has time to wait by his phone, trust me) it is definitely going to be a go go. Where is the real Optimus Prime when you need him.
(Arggghhhhhh, my eyes)
And talking about films that we don't need Hammer Horror ignites the flames to new movie Gaslight. Now while I am excited about the promised Abe Vampire Slayer movie, this film does no justice to a story that has been told a million times already. In this alternative universide, Gaslight tells the story of Jack The Ripper who has been captured and sent to an insane asylum except a new killer with the same MO is stalking the streets again, its up to the infamous killer to help police track him down. Does that sound familiar to you? Like, I don't know, an Oscar winning film with Anthony Hopkins and Jodie Foster? Yes, it is pretty much Silence Of The Lambs for the Victorian ages. So that's two stories it is ruining. Rack it up Gaslight.
(Just like my hopes for the film industry)
